Academic Artifacts & Reflection

As a professional student, I've been constantly asked by both professors and supervisors to reflect on what my core values are. My growth and development these past two years has led me to identify with eight distinct values. These values either permeate between my professional and academic lives or are more pronounced in one area over the other. They are challenge, collaboration, humor, leadership, learner, persistence, and perspective. The bolded values are the ones I see taking a stronger hold in my academic career as exhibited in these artifacts.

Each of these artifacts highlights my academic interests in new student transitions and diverse student populations, specifically indigenous (Native Hawaiian) students. Additionally, I chose to showcase my academic work by selecting final projects in three different mediums: written paper, informational poster, and a video. Through this experience I've learned lessons regarding time management, networking, providing/receiving feedback, organizational learning, technology, and setting expectations.

As I continue to grow both academically and professionally I hope to be more strategic when it comes to networking by asking targeted questions and maintaining connections through LinkedIn or Twitter. I plan to continue researching transitional issues for various new student populations while also gaining deeper knowledge on the organization and administration policies and practices of higher education institutions. Finally, I will remain exposing myself to new technologies and ways of knowing to implement in programs and services I plan to promote inclusive engagement.
